Start of the Year Feast and Sorting

Kris stood at a podium on the platform that was at the head of the great hall. She quietly watched as her returning students entered the room, taking seats at their house tables. Once everyone was seated, she made her usual start of term speech, and announced the new teachers as the first years were led into the room. The sorting hat was sitting on a stool in front of the podium, and Kris took out a parchment with the list of new students. She called names, and placed the hat on the head of the student, waiting for the hat to announce the student's house. She always loved the sorting ceremony, and was so happy that it was a tradition that could still continue.

Brittany was called up, and she nervously walked up and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on her head, and after a few silent moments, the hat called out "Gryffindor!", and Brittany eagerly approached the table, only having to run back to hand the hat back to Kris. She then went over to the gryffindor table, taking a seat next to Carver, who was also a gryffindor.

After a few more students were sorted, it was Derek's turn. He walked up to the hat, and it was placed on his head. "Hmm..."the hat said, but Derek was the only one who could hear it. "I see great success with Slytherin," the hat said, but Derek shook his head. He didn't want to be in slytherin. "Really, eh?" the hat said again, and was silent. "I guess if you don't want to be a slytherin, then Ravenclaw is the next best house!" the hat said, but the students only heard the word Ravenclaw. Ethan breathed a sigh of relief and happily handed back the hat, going to the Ravenclaw table.

OOC: my other student charries are here as well. Olivia, Emma, and Kaiden are all in Ravenclaw with Derek. Carver and Ron are in Gryffindor with Brittany. Ruby, Reid, and Kyla are all hufflepuffs. Samantha and Ethan are slytherins

[BOA SLYTHERIN-WOOD]

Josepha sat at her spot besides the Headmistress. She was the head of Slytherin house and was eager to see if any of her young grandchildren would get sorted in her house this year. She also crossed her fingers hoping that the older ones would behave and be a good example for the little ones.

Josepha smiled at Derek as he went up. She was very curious to see what house he would end up in. She held her breath and waited. The hat yelled "Ravenclaw". It wasn't her house but she knew he would thrive with Ravenclaw. She clapped and hooted for him.

Harmony Wood went up to the sorting hat. She was a very skinny girl with tan skin and beautiful eyes that seemed to glow. She was sorted into Gryffindor.

Piper Gallagher was called up. Josepha scooted to the end of her seat and peered down at her granddaughter. She was the spitting image of her mother when she was her age. "Gryffindor!" the hat announced. She clapped and cheered being happy for her little one, even though she wasn't a Slytherin.

Coral Slytherin was called. The hat screamed "Hufflepuff" even before it touched the top of her head. Coral smile, pleased at this ... until she could hear and see some of her peers giggling at her. They were whispering about her "A Slytherin in Hufflepuff? How pathetic" "She must be the black sheep in the family" etc etc. Coral pouted as she made her way to her seat.
